A replacement key is the key that you will use to replace the original key you had or have in the event that it gets broken or lost. For some locks you will be able to contact the manufacturer and get a replacement key. This is usually the case of the lock that comes on a boat or on a car or for a bike. If you need a replacement key for the lock on your home then things may get a bit more difficult for you. It is best to cut a few additional copies of the keys for you home locks or any locks for that matter before the need arises for a replacement key. If you made copies then you could easily replace the key and move on. If you didn’t then you may be looking at a more expensive solution to the problem. You will most likely have to change the lock and if you had a few locks without replacement keys then that is going to cost you more. You may also have to damage the door and this will cost you more as you will have to get it repaired after the lock has been removed. There is also the inconvenience that comes with situations like this. You may have to stay locked out of you own place for a couple of hours. This is something that you definitely do not want to experience. Have copies made of all your keys today so you can easily replace them when you need to.
